Word/Super Clock signal distributor + audio synchronizer

The DISTRIBUTOR ws is a digital signal distributor/amplifier that distributes incoming Word and Super Clock signals simultaneously among eight outputs. Additionally, audio signals can be fed in via S/PDIF and AES/EBU inputs. In this case, the clock signal embedded in the data stream is extracted and distributed as a Word Clock signal among the outputs. Thus, all audio devices that are not equipped with a Word Clock output can also act as masters in a studio environment. All outputs on the DISTRIBUTOR ws feature separate driver stages. The AES/EBU input is transformer-balanced, the S/PDIF input is transformer-coupled.

A digital frequency synthesizer will soon be optionally available in module form (XXXX-01) that will enable the user to generate the Super Clock frequency (256x Word Clock) from Word Clock signals and route it specifically to any output using internal switches. In studio setups with just one Word Clock generator as master it will therefore be possible to conveniently synchronize e.g. Digidesign Audio Hardware. In this context the DISTRIBUTOR ws will also work as a clock converter providing the output frequency adjusted on a specific output independently of the incoming signal.

Furthermore, the DISTRIBUTOR ws can receive at its clock input the bus signals sent by a MUTEC SMART CLOCK. Since the delay of the SMART CLOCK's output signals is exactly the same as the DISTRIBUTOR's internal run-time, the output signals of both devices, even though they are connected in series, will be synchronized in phase and coherent in the time domain(!).

If you connect, for instance, a clock generator and a signal distributor of different makes to each other, this will inevitably lead to phase relationship and run-time differences between the output signals of the connected devices. As a consequence, the signals from the distributor, comparable to a delay line, are delayed with respect to the generator's output signals. Similarly, the phase relationships of the signals from the two devices would not be identical any longer, due to the different circuitry used. Feeding devices, if clocked with such differing signals, would not be capable any longer of delivering their signals in sync to other devices, which can result in audible "glitches" in the mix. With the help of the DISTRIBUTOR's delay and phase-compensated feed circuitry, the SMART CLOCK will effectively eliminate any such problems!
